Op-ed from CEO David Rabin
Dear Greenwich residents and businesses,
Our community is known for many things. When all is said and done though, Greenwich’s most valuable asset is our people. Corporations and residents who refuse to let a crisis harm our most vulnerable population. In these uncertain times, we need to come together to help our neighbors in need.
The best way to do that is to let the one organization, who for 86 years has been the town’s leader in funding human service-related needs, do what we do best. A crisis like this is exactly why the Greenwich United Way is here.
With a $100,000 seed grant from the town of Greenwich, we have launched the Greenwich United Way’s COVID -19 Community Relief Fund. Our vast experience in ensuring donor dollars get to the people and programs that need it most is needed now more than ever. For decades, we have been vetting grant applications, doing deep dives into agency programs, and poring over our funded organization’s financials and tax returns to ensure our donor dollars have the greatest impact on the people that need it most. We do the work, so you don’t have to!
Now is the time for every hedge fund, every business, every resident who is able, to come to the aid of the almost 1/3 of our population that is a missed paycheck away from financial catastrophe. And that number will most likely grow as time goes on.
Let’s show the world what Greenwich is all about. Let’s define together what it means to rally around our neighbors in need.
