This court, Connecticut’s only trial court of general jurisdiction, has the following principal trial divisions: civil, criminal, family, motor vehicle, housing and small claims.  The HOUSING DIVISION SMALL CLAIMS DIVISION, BANKRUPTCY COURT, AND PROBATE COURT FOR THE DISTRICT OF GREENWICH are all listed separately. The Stamford courthouse is the largest and most technologically advanced in the state.  Stamford is headquarters for Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Weston, Westport, and Wilton.

Programs:

  • JURY DUTY –  Connecticut residents are called to serve on juries for Superior Court unless you are 70 or older. Cases may be in either the civil or the criminal division, and they may be tried at courthouses in either Stamford or Norwalk. Jurors are chosen at random from the lists of registered voters and from Motor Vehicle Dept lists. You cannot volunteer, and you cannot have your name removed unless you move out-of-state.  If you receive a summons for Jury Service, check if you are needed on your scheduled court date by calling the Jury Administration office (recording), after 5:30 pm the evening before you are to report for Jury Duty. If you are unable to go to court as scheduled, please call Jury Administration office.
  • COURT MANDATED COMMUNITY SERVICE -Fulfilling Your Community Service. The court will give you paperwork that outlines the specifications of your service hours.  For questions contact your lawyer or case manager to make sure your volunteer hours qualify.
