GREENWICH POLICE DEPARTMENT – ANIMAL CONTROL AND ADOPTION DIVISION

This Town division enforces local laws pertaining to the keeping of dogs, cats and other animals. They supervise animal adoptions when pets are not claimed by their owners. Animal control officers will remove sick or injured deer, foxes, raccoons, and skunks, and domestic pets if they have bitten someone.  These cases are regarded as potentially dangerous, due to rabies.  Other kinds of animal problems, including stray cats, are referred to the CONNECTICUT HUMANE SOCIETY, CONNECTICUT WILDLIFE REHABILITATORS, WILDLIFE IN CRISIS, or WILD WINGS, or to licensed nuisance trappers (consult the Yellow Pages under Pest Control ). Removing dead animals from town roadways is done by the GREENWICH DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS -HIGHWAY DIVISION.   Dead animals found on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.
