AMERICARES FOUNDATION

Founded in 1982, this is the world’s largest private relief organization. Keeping overhead under 2%, it sends relief flights of medicine, medical equipment, and nutritional items to victims of natural disasters, famine, and war in 137 countries around the world.

PERROT MEMORIAL LIBRARY

The library, named for John Perrot, a British loyalist and Old Greenwich’s first private schoolmaster, was founded in 1904 by his descendants.  It is an independent institution, though Perrot and the GREENWICH LIBRARY system share the same database including online catalog and internet service.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS, MID-FAIRFIELD COUNTY

Founded in 1996, this nonprofit organization provides clothing for low-income women who are going into or returning to the work force. Referrals are through government agencies, including homeless or domestic violence shelters, immigration services, and job training programs. Each client receives one suit for interviewing and another when she gets a job.
